Story & Experience

Good morning all, I personally had and felt a rush of rejuvenating experiences, moments and thoughts. I came to Tlholego as a neo-nomad, looking to experience exactly what a former scout would expect… Normal camping, bonfires and grilled marshmallows .
This was not to be. The grilled marshmallows and the outdoor educational activities certainly happened but I was lost for words when it came to the sweat lodge. I remember the efforts it took to construct the sweat and the mental preparation we were given. I remember feeling like it was just another eurocentric outdoorsy activity that had no spiritual benefit to a person. I was wrong beyond measure.
I remember the calming effect of our spiritual guide’s words. The calming effect of the herbs that were used to cleanse the fire, ourselves and the sweat. I remember how the meticulous step by step instructions from our spiritual guide felt almost as if we were part of a cosmic shift of the universe. I remember how much it made sense for me to have always considered myself an eco warrior. I remember wondering where the huge load I felt on my shoulders went to. I remember feeling at peace for the first time in a very long time. I remembered why I joined the scouts as a young boy. To live purposefully, in sync with nature and my loved ones. I remember that our lives are musical notes and that we should ensure we play our most gentle notes yet so as to leave a beautiful Melody across the sands of time.
I cannot explain further than that. I am failing to translate my emotions into words but in all essence I learnt why the Chinese fill their broken China with gold as they believe that items that are broken have more value. I understood the sweat as the gold I needed within.
