Story & Experience

A simple visit and walk through the arboretum of trees, native plants and birds flying through reminds us that we all need such places to share together. That isn’t always possible for marginalized people who are also our neighbors and kin. The back story of how this land was taken through Eminent Domain in the early 1900’s from a Chinese family is not atypical. We spent time honoring the story and the loss, and picked up the trash that had accumulated most recently.

Why this Place?
Portland Oregon - The Willamette River Watershed in the Pacific NW
The location and beauty of this park lives within a mostly untold and unknown story of loss and racism. We can benefit by learning these stories and changing our awareness of the past on behalf of the present and the future.
Act of Beauty
Our act was one of attention and story-telling as we wandered the park and watched the people enjoying it together with dogs, friends, lovers and just by walking through under the old trees. It was an understated and experience of care and awareness.
