Story & Experience

Overwhelmed by use, this gorgeous locale and fly fishing spot, finds a degraded access bank spilling into the river, challenging any user’s safety, and filling pristine trout waters with sand. In November 2006 several conservation-committed, local businesses built a series of remarkable log stairs to stabilize the steep bank but popularity has widened & deepened the erosion and further jeopardized access. The land needs to heal but does access get limited? Denied? This Rad Joy Bird calls for a truce—for users to stick to the stairs, for further planting and erosion control, and, perhaps, for a moratorium on its use.
