Story & Experience

Strickland Erie, CO Umbrella & Gas

It was a 100 degree day. The four of us went into the blazing sun to sit with the tanks on parched land. I love the picture of the rainbow umbrella on the parched land. I wanted to hang a feather on the gate. We found a string on the ground and strands of my hair were woven into the string. We hung it on the gate. Next we made the bird and sang a beautiful song to the tanks. I need to get the words from the participant. One of the fellows had made a rattle out of a discarded plastic bottle. We rattled it while we sang and then it became the beak of the bird. In the end we had a sense that this was a sacred place. Hydraulic fracturing across the street from elementary school. Joy for water.

Next, we tried to get near the actual fracking sight and had a nice talk with the security guard, but he would not let us in. So we went to the elementary school right across the street that many people have been working to protect. In Colorado you can frack 350 feet from residence, school, or business. We played with water at the elementary school, honoring water’s role in fracking.
