Gas Fracking Woes

Story & Experience

Johnson, Trebbe

Since 2008 the gas fracking industry has been overtaking the quiet hills and lake communities of northeastern Pennsylvania, where I live. Wells and pipelines gouge deep into the Earth and slash woodlands. They burrow under streams and frighten farm animals to the far sides of their pastures, away from the noise. I am devastated and outraged by this invasion. I went to the site of a big pipeline snaking up a beautiful hill about 10 miles from my home. I made this little bird for it after sitting there for quite a long time, expressing my love for the land, water, and sky. A bad eagle was slowly circling overhead as I sat there, and the bird offered me beauty and joy.
