Cornmeal Creek

Type of Wounded Place
Story & Experience
12 members of the Earth Listening Circles of the Deep Adaptation Forum visited places local to them and did an Earth Exchange, as part of a global collaboration to listen to wounded places.
We visited the creek where it can be accessed – from a boardwalk alongside the shopping centre. We met fish, birds, waters, tide and mangroves struggling to reclaim the creek bed.
We walked the creek out to the river mouth and sat on the cool sand.

We spoke what we saw, creating a kind of poem. Dancing fish, sparkle sparkle, greasy slick, darting swallow, so fast! Human debris, mangrove! Oh mud! And mangrove! We cheer for you. And wince at the sounds of human. Ocean! We see you. And you, dredger. And jumping fish. It rose and fell with the diverse observations – grief and beauty – and sat with the orange skies setting over the mountains.
