Event Inspiration

11coterie   For the 2019 GEX I struggled to find a single place as inspiration for my event.  There are so many wounded places, people, animals, waters.  How to choose?  In late May, I visited Boulder, CO to prepare for a wilderness trip.  As I drove around the bustling city, I felt an overwhelming sadness that many of the prairie dog sites that used to be locations I visited during a 2005 research project are now completely built over.  Colonies and coteries turned into condos and tech space.  I had always, wrongly, assumed that Boulder was somehow impervious to choosing high-density development over open spaces.  But like so many “green” cities, wildlife washing has becoming the norm. To honor the lost spaces and animals, my 2019 GEX is dedicated to the countless endangered animals who are losing ground every year.  My son and I will be the only two in attendance at this private GEX. I am excited to share this practice with him (he’s almost 1.5yo) and create beauty for our wild brethren. May we remember our more-than-human family on this and every day.
