Why this Place?

Peninsula Park Rose Garden

In the heart of Portland’s NE neighborhood is it’s oldest official rose park, dedicated in about 1925. Built up on the site of an old quarry which provided the rock for building residences in the neighborhood, a ‘redlined’ neighborhood where only white residents could buy or rent. Now, people of all kinds, colors, heritages, come and spend time here, as it is filled with roses, a center fountain, and offers a swimming pool, diamonds and fields for sports, toddler equipment and swings, paths and many 100 year old Linden and Maple and Fir trees. And no signage which tells the truer deeper and important story, not evidence of reparations to those harmed by the past. A great loss of learning!
