Story & Experience
Three of us gathered on the beach with an intention, artistic offering and prayer. The intention was to be present and in connection with all of the more than human beings and in particular today the Gray whales. Our circle felt magical and the togetherness helped to undo aloneness with grief. We delighted in the beauty of the place and were graced by an eagle, seal and many water birds. We felt grateful for the experience, joy in our offering and more at peace when we left.

Why this Place?
Deception Pass State Park
26 Gray whales have died on the Washington coast so far in 2026, an already depleted species. It is thought to be due to lack of food source from warming waters.
Act of Beauty
We chose to gather stones, seaweed and driftwood to create an image of a Gray whale on the sand. We ended with a prayer for the whales and for ourselves to be more connected to land and more than human animals.
