Beauty for the Beach

Story & Experience

It was such a wonderful experience to be able to bring radical joy to this sweet piece of the beach in Guardamar. As people passed by, they took notice of our art and I hope they paused to consider how we were using the materials from the sand and water to create the beautiful image of the bird. It was an intergenerational art creation with shared vision from two children and one adult. Our deep appreciation for this place helped us to take time and enjoy the artful grounding connection that this experience encouraged. And we were able to visually share it with others also experiencing the sand and sea of the place, until the waves swept it all away in their patterned and calming way. We hope it pieces are carried to help bring joy and ease the hard times.

Why this Place?
Playa La Roqueta
This location was chosen because it needs love. It is a place that is overly used and extracted from, with the human imprint of local pollution and global climate injustice.
Act of Beauty
It was a collective vision for the art piece. We liked the idea of contributing to the tradition of a RadJoy bird and so we gathered elements from the sand and sea environment which we believed would represent a bird well. We intentionally placed seashells, seagrass, grains of wet and dry sand, stones, and reeds into the shape that we gently and temporarily outlined into this piece of the earth. It was enjoyable and enriching to make.
