Chad Olds is an animal control officer in Vance County, North Carolina, but earlier in his career, he was a musician. Olds’s boss, Frankie Nobles, chief of animal services, suggested recently that Olds combine his two professions… and go sing to the dogs in the shelter.

Olds showed up the next morning with his guitar and began walking up and down the aisle in front of the cages and singing a song for them. Almost immediately, the dogs calmed down. “They just stopped barking,” Olds said. “It blew my mind.”

The first concert worked so well that the two men decided to make it a regular practice. They are also encouraging other shelters to bring music to animals awaiting adoption.
