When you make a gift of beauty for a hurt place, you use whatever “art supplies” the place offers you.
You create this gift with everyone else who’s present. And you know that, when you’ve completed your work, wind, rain, animals, people, or traffic will come along to take their part as the next artists.
Of course you want your work to be as beautiful as possible. That’s the nature of the creative spirit in all of us. But your desire for beauty isn’t weighed down by a desire for recognition or appreciation. Knowing that this gift of beauty is anonymous frees you to be as loving, zany, and spontaneous as you want. Because after you make it, it belongs to the Earth.
