Our 17th Annual Global Earth Exchange!

Saturday, June 20th Worldwide

The Earth gives so much to us—by participating in the Global Earth Exchange, we can collectively honor and give back to places we love!

At a time when many people feel grief, helplessness, or disconnection in the face of ecological loss and other world events, the Global Earth Exchange offers something different: a chance to respond with beauty, gratitude, and care.

Every year since 2010, people around the world have gathered on or near the solstice to honor places they love that are wounded, threatened, or in need of care. Together, we bear witness to these places and offer simple acts of giving back to places such as prayer, song, storytelling, and creating an offering of art.

Because damaged places still hold beauty, meaning, and life, and they deserve our attention.

We hope you can join us in this shared global ritual of gratitude and reciprocity for the Earth.

How to Participate

Choose a place you love that has been harmed or is under threat—a beach, forest, river, neighborhood, park, or even your own backyard. Go alone, or gather friends, family, neighbors, or community members. Then offer a simple act of care or beauty.

You might:

  • Create art, music, poetry, or prayer
  • Hold a gathering or ceremony
  • Share stories about the place
  • Sit quietly and bear witness

There is no right way to participate. No place is too small. No act of care is insignificant.

Why Join?

Participants often describe the experience as deeply moving—leaving them transformed,  feeling more connected, hopeful, grounded, and alive.

This is more than an event. It is a growing worldwide tradition of remembrance, reciprocity, and belonging.

Radical Joy for Hard Times is an organization, practice, and worldwide community dedicated to giving back to those places on Earth that have given so much to us and can’t give what they used to.

Every Place Matters

Radical Joy for Hard Times is a worldwide community of people dedicated to bringing meaning, beauty, and value to places that have been damaged by human or natural acts.

We are willing to face the sorrow we feel when the places we care about have been hurt and to respond not by turning our backs but by boldly stepping forth to spend time with these places and offer them gifts of love and gratitude for all they have given to us. We believe that in these troubling times, taking care of the places where we live in the present, even as we work for a better future is an essential tool for survival.

Listening to the land and to one another, we discover a new sense of belonging. We gain the courage to go through hard times, for we see that it is always possible to give beauty and kindness. We recognize that all places, like all people, have inherent value. We discover that, although we may disagree with our neighbors about some things, we share a deep and abiding love of place.

We understand that we are all connected in the common ground beneath our hearts.
